Last Friday I met up with my friend Adrian, who has recently come back from studying abroad in Spain. Adrian has been playing piano since he was four years old, and offered me some very enlightening information, as I was having trouble playing the right and left hand at different tempos. Apparently, a better strategy is to learn one hand at a time rather than both, starting from the left, so I'll be doing that from now on!
I'm enjoying seeing you move through this learning process, Sasha! It sounds like you had thought about this method before, and Adrian confirmed it. It would be interesting to learn one song with both hands together, and another with them separate, and compare how that goes - whether one way feels more complete, or faster, or if the end result is the same?
ReplyDeleteIt's still difficult, but it is a new strategy I tried out. Regardless, I'm sure picking up a new instrument isn't an immediate process.
DeleteHow nice that you got to reconnect with Adrian, and that he had some good tips for you! How is the new strategy working out? Wendy
